Author of baby care bible finds new drive The expectant mom on the cover of the new, revised edition of the 25-year-old "bible" on childbirth, What to Expect When You're Expecting, is wearing jeans, standing up, showing off her belly with a proud smile. "She's off her rocker, finally!" author Heidi Murkoff wrote in an e-mail interview of the hot mama fronting the fourth edition of the influential book, which Murkoff first co-authored in 1984. The mom on that original cover was shown in a rocking chair, taking a load off her presumably aching feet.


Businessman restores mansion into museum
Chicago's Richard M. Driehaus founded an investment firm that manages $4.5 billion in assets. As the chairman of Driehaus Capital Management, he has enough money to pretty much buy whatever he wants. "I could have a yacht,'' said the 65-year-old Driehaus. "But they're just a sinkhole, and nobody ever uses them anyway."

Savvy shopper finds bargains with coupons
Brenda Bromfield of west suburban Woodridge has become such a skilled shopper, she can come up with a coupon or a bulk bargain buy on nearly everything. Her grocery bill is $40 a week to feed herself, husband Jim, 9-year-old daughter Madison and 6-year-old son Ian. Bromfield posted a notice in the newsletter of her church in Downers Grove asking fellow parishioners to give her unwanted coupons.

Chicagoans lauded as outgoing and positive
There's more than a grain of truth to the stereotype of the friendly, outgoing Midwesterner, says a new book on connections between cities and residents' personalities. In his book, Who's Your City?, economic geographer Richard Florida concludes that choosing where to live is the most critical decision a person makes.
