Where is Leon Despres when you need him? A person with the character of a man such as Despres, a former Chicago alderman, is just who we need on the board that Cook County Board President Todd Stroger is appointing to oversee the county's health-care system.

I am a resident of the 47th Ward and was saddened when I read that Ald. Eugene Schulter is part of the group of aldermen assaulting the Chicago music scene ["Is city killing live music?"]. Your requirement for expensive licensing and forcing promoters to jump through hoops to legally promote music will destroy the independent music scene in our city. I am a musician who has enjoyed playing many small clubs in the city, which are among the best places to play or see a concert.
While impressed by his efforts to decrease smoking in restaurants in Chicago, I feel let down after hearing how Mayor Daley stopped the ban of foie gras in restaurants in Chicago. Foie gras is totally unnecessary for healthy human survival, just like other dead animals are. I wish Mayor Daley would respect animals as much as human lungs.
